Manchester’s legendary Happy Mondays are back on the road on the eve of the 30th anniversary of their 1987 ‘Squirrel And G-Man…’. As if they’ve never been away, the twenty four hour party people have announced a twenty-five date tour of the UK and Ireland in the run up to Christmas. With a prime line-up of Shaun and Paul Ryder, Bez, Gaz Whelan, Rowetta, Mark Day and Paul Davis, they’ll be returning to the Manchester Academy on 13th December.
The legendary band first came to the public’s attention in 1985 with the New Order-esque ‘Forty Five EP‘, released on Factory Records following an appearance at a battle of the bands competition in the Hacienda. Leading the Madchester wave that swept the country, the band’s tumultuous history reached a peak in 1990 with the seminal ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’, offering classics such as Step On, Kinky Afro and Loose Fit.
Frontman Shaun Ryder claims the band are “performing better than ever”, with mover and shaker Bez adding “just as I thought it was all over, the party’s starting again. Look forward to seeing you all”.
The Happy Mondays perform at Manchester Academy on Wednesday 13th September 2017. Tickets are available here.
