The band decided to self-release the EP due to popular demand from their following. “We kept on getting emails and messages asking us where our tracks could be bought from, so we decided to release an EP to make our music more accessible to people”, lyricist and vocalist Ruth Williams said. “We ’re really excited to finally be getting these tracks out there – two of which were written over 3 years ago!”
Here is a bit of background information…8bitmoon is an electronic band based in the North West of England. Taking influence from a diverse range of artists and producers, among them Afta-1, Boards of Canada, Little Dragon and Thom Yorke, their hybrid sound fuses experimental productions with delicate vocals to make “electronic treasures that are undeniably their own, and entirely infectious” (Mercedes Benz Mixed Tape).
The project began in 2009 following a musical collaboration between producer and composer Josh Crocker and Welsh singer/songwriter Ruth Williams. Having enjoyed working together in this capacity, the pair continued to experiment and co-create musically (originally under the name ‘What Ruthy Said’- in homage to Josh’s father, a member of legendary 1970’s rock band Cockney Rebel). Their music changed and developed over the following year, and in 2010 8bitmoon – the band – was formed.
