The Manchester International Festival was established in 2007 and takes place every other summer across the city. It is a performing arts festival showcasing a variety of different events including music gigs, stage theatre, visual art, and popular culture.
Performers come from across the globe to perform at the festival. Highlights this year include Massive Attack and artist Adam Curtis collaborating on a production combining music and film. Goldfrapp at the Albert Hall performing material from their upcoming album with an Electronic Orchestra (I’ve got my ticket already). Neneh Cherry and producers RocketNumberNine will perform their new album in its entirety at the Pavilion Theatre.
The xx are also performing each day throughout the entirety of the festival (18 performances in total) in a secret location in the centre of town. If that isn’t’ enough Manchester quartet M O N E Y are playing two gigs – catch them before they hit the even bigger time.
All this along with theatre productions, art shows, orchestras, discussions and live art installations will give you plenty to pick and mix what you want to witness at this years MIF. What’s even better, if you’re a resident in the Greater Manchester area, there are a limited amount of tickets at a discounted price…just for being a Manc!
Get yours quick and get a taste of what Manchester has to offer. The festival takes place from 4th-21st of July.
