Formerly the Hang player in experimental jazz and folk group Portico Quartet, Nick Mulvey has a global musical tradition; he studied music in Havana, ethnomusicology at SOAS and is au fait with Congolese guitar technique. On his first solo album, First Mind, he incorporates these diverse influences, producing a restrained, subtle, technically sophisticated work. There are Afro Cuban rhythms, complex, intricate guitar plucking and delicate, folk-inspired lyrical constructions. It’s gained him rave reviews and a Mercury Award nomination and now he’s touring, visiting Manchester’s Albert Hall on the 23rd March. Book now, for a uniquely talented performer and well accomplished instrumentalist.
