Words by Wes Foster
Sartain is one of a rare few who can really write.
Take, for example, his overlooked album Dudesblood – a mix of rock, rockabilly and punk smatters the album like no other. The simplicity of the lyrics portrayed and the cutting rawness brim with an honesty and simplicity, alongside a certain lightness of heart foreign to a lot of solo musicians.
His work of almost 16 years encompasses touring with the likes of Jack White and The Hives as well as releasing under White’s Third Man record label. Now he’s gone a step further and veered in a much more electronic direction, with very minimal downplayed beats alongside the catchy hooks familiar to his earlier work.
Unlike a lot of others, this Night & Day Cafe gig is set to be a night to remember, with support coming from Gorgeous Bully and Bones Shake – two radically different bands, with the latter bringing their brand of heavy, dirty rock in contrast to the former’s DIY minimalist pop.
The gig will take place at Night & Day Café on Thursday 28 April, 2016, and is promoted by DHP.
