This one’s for the telly addicts out there – it’s time to lift yourself off the sofa and head out to screens further afield, as the inaugural Pilot Light festival heads to Manchester and Salford.
From independent web series to world-renowned production companies, there’s room for all and sundry on their schedule. Just point your zapper towards the cult retrospectives, premiers and a previously banned documentary, BBC’s The War Game.
It’s not all a recipe for square eyes. A Q&A with Nathan Barley’s Charlie Condou (who played Jonatton Yeah? in the series) is chaired by Guardian journo and hipster culture doomsayer Andrew Harrison. Elsewhere, the 2006 black comedy Snuff Box is discussed by a panel including Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Michael Cumming (Brass Eye) and Charlie Hanson (Extras), and there’s a Q&A with cast members of the forthcoming second series of Hoff The Record.

The festival runs from 5-8 May at HOME and the University of Salford’s MediaCity campus.
