Two of the most popular beat ’em up console games ever, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, went head-to-head in the film world by releasing adaptations in consecutive years in the 90s. Fast-forward to Bank Holiday Monday 2016, and RAD Screenings have pitted the two heavyweights against each other at Gorilla as part of a themed event.
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue are among the celebrity names featured as M Bison causes upheavel for the pixelated warriors of Street Fighter (1994), while Mortal Kombat’s (1995) battle to prevent the world descending into war with beings from a parallel dimension gained critical plaudits, and rumours suggest the franchise could see a third instalment in 2017.
For now, Gorilla is the venue for this cinematic trip down memory lane, as well as a current gen console tournament hosted by Bitlord.
