Words by Wes Foster.
Regardless of not having an album since 2013, Meilyr Jones still seems to have such a current presence both in his work and in the wider scheme of things. The way people write and think about him could quite comfortably lead you astray into believing him to be immediate.
Known for his enigmatic style on stage, he delivers compassionate and entertaining sets, captivating audiences with ease, his skinny Welsh boy image somehow taking up the whole floor.
Perhaps this is just what we needed, a supreme pop writer who goes back to the basics of song writing just for the joy of it, with soulful, hopeful pop music, punctuated by keys and brass.
Meilyr Jones plays at Deaf Institute on Tuesday 4 October, 2016, stage time 8.45pm. Tickets are available on the door.
