Lauren Laverne earlier today used her Radio 6 Music show to premiere Dutch Uncles’ ‘Big Balloon’, the eponymous lead single from their fifth studio album, due in February.
Its guitar-led melodies and throbbing basslines evoke a 1980s scene of shoulder pads and perms, cushioning singer Duncan Wallis’ dulcet tones in the sepia of reminisce.
The much-loved Manchester quartet followed 2015’s O Shudder with a clutch of high-profile venue shows and festivals, including Manchester Ritz, Bluedot and Festival No.6, and will be back on the road for a UK tour in March, returning to Dancehouse for a hometown finale on 15 March.
There’s a little while to wait for fans of the art-pop wordplayers, but in the meantime the single is available below:
