No sooner have smokey shoegazers Cigarettes After Sex filled Manchester’s Deaf Institute than they’ve announced round two in April, when they’ll be back to perform at Gorilla.
Included in Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘New Artists You Need To Know‘ list at the start of the year, the Texan quartet’s live shows have gone on to live up to the hype of 2015’s slow-burning sizzler of a track, ‘Affection’, and they were recently named on the Primavera 2017 line-up.
A minimalist cover of REO Speedwagon’s classic ‘Keep On Loving You‘ has been viewed over 7 million times on YouTube, a figure that’s dwarfed by the huge 15 million hits for ‘Affection’.
Now based in Brooklyn, they put out another single earlier this year, ‘K.’, which has emphasised comparisons with The Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star for its glistening, breathy soundscapes. Their star is rising, so anticipation is high for more recorded material. A debut album is in the offing for next spring alongside an expansive European tour, so far traversing 10 countries.
Cigarettes After Sex play at Gorilla on Tuesday 18 April, 2017. Tickets are available here.
