If you read any 2016 end of year rundowns, no doubt you will have come across Car Seat Headrest a fair few times. Teens Of Denial brought Car Seat Headrest (stage name for its leader, Will Toledo) to the forefront of modern guitar indie rock, and received critical and commercial acclaim. With a date next month at Gorilla selling out before most got around to even attempting a purchase, Toledo has announced a new show at the O2 Ritz later this year, on 30th August.
24-year old Will Toledo, currently based in Seattle, has released a seriously impressive twelve albums and EPs since 2010, all self-released via Bandcamp. His stage name comes from the hours spent recording in his car away from prying ears, refining a sound which has since seen him perform at Primavera and Glastonbury. Indie rock label Matador came knocking, overseeing the release of two ‘compilations’ based on his previous material, re-recorded with a studio band. First came Teens Of Style in 2015, and last year, Teens Of Denial.
Songs often revolve around his sharp lyrics, fluctuating from the playful to the sorrowful, backed up with a solid modern indie signature. What does 2017 hold for the promising star? Toledo has been regularly touring over recent months, with plenty of dates already in the diary for Europe and the US this Spring, as well as talk of a possible collaboration with Smashmouth…
Car Seat Headrest will play the O2 Ritz on Wednesday 30th August, 2017. Tickets are available here.
