Brazilian singer-songwriter Seu Jorge (Your Jorge) will be playing a Life Aquatic tribute to David Bowie at The Albert Hall next month. Jorge found exposure as ‘Knockout Ned’ in the critically acclaimed 2002 film ‘City Of God’, though it was an appearance in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou’ brought his musical prowess to the public’s attention. His role as the wistful, Bowie-obsessed Pelé dos Santos spawned an album of David Bowie covers formed from his sessions in The Life Aquatic.
He’ll now be returning to the role for a series a shows across Europe following a string of dates in the US. Jorge, one of Brazil’s most talented contemporary singers, has become a household name in his native country with seven albums under his belt, as well a successful acting career.
On Jorge’s music, Bowie himself commented “Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese, I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with”.
