Another busy week of shows in Manchester awaits, and things are starting to get a little spooky as we’re visited by another excess of big names and budding young talent leading up the scariest night of the year. Looking ahead to what we can look forward to over Halloween in Manchester, we’ve also prepared a special, terrifying, nightmarish preview to guide you through the ghastly festivities. Read the Halloweekend Preview here. Until then, here’s what you can looking forward to in Manchester over the next seven days…
Monday 23rd: Declan McKenna (The Ritz)
// Declan McKenna first found his fans aged just 16, winning Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition, awarded with a slot on the festival’s William’s Green Stage. He’s since released two EPs and this year, his first LP, ‘What Do You Think About the Car?’. His appearance at the Ritz comes as part of his first headline tour.
Tuesday 24th: Fickle Friends (Gorilla)
// Though Brighton’s indie-pop five-piece Fickle Friends are yet to release their debut album, they refined their craft over two years working hard on the road, before Polydor came knocking. Their debut is expected early next year, but listen to a taste of what’s to come with latest single ‘Hard To Be Myself’, below.
Wednesday 25th: Weezer (The Apollo)
// Now in their third decade of existence, LA cohort Weezer show no signs of bringing their pop-rock perfection to an end, appearing at The Apollo just days before the release of latest album ‘Pacific Daydream’.
Thursday 26th: Little Dragon (Academy)
// Another favourite visiting this week are Swedish ‘indietronica’ quartet Little Dragon, bringing their signature blend of futuristic and groove-full electronics with the soulful tones of frontwoman Yukimi Nagano to the Academy, supporting latest album ‘Season High’.
// Soup Kitchen host a co-headline night of cutting edge electronic music in the shape of worriedaboutsatan and Pye Corner Audio, while Ultimate Power will be hosting another takeover of The Ritz, this time for a Halloween special, and we expect some very special fancy dress, Manchester…
// This Saturday we are truly blessed by two big, no, mammoth names in rock. The Arena is hosting thrash metal legends Metallica on their only date in the North of England on current ‘Hardwired…to Self-Destruct’ tour. Following the move of one-day festival Transformer from Victoria Warehouse, we’re expecting an awestruck crowd to pack out the Albert Hall for the return of Canadian doom outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The Montreal collective will be taking their mammoth, symphonic productions to stage once again, supported by Liars and Bardo Pond. Electronic duo Mount Kimbie will be taking the stage over at The Ritz supporting new album ‘Love What Survives’
// Bringing the week to a close, German producer Pantha Du Prince keeps the vibes strong, rolling into Halloween week, while those needing something a little softer may head to Soup for thoughtful singer-songwriter Robbie Cavanagh.
