January is out the way, it’s still light at 5pm, everything’s looking up, we think… We heard apparently something about a Superb Owl and Justin Timberlake happened last night? Well, once again proving that we don’t need a budget of millions to put on a good show, we’ve put together a guide of the great and good in town this week. Read on for BagThing’s take on the next seven days in MCR.

Monday 5th: Heart Beach (The Eagle Inn)

// We get started this week with a visit from Tasmanian outfit Heart Beach, celebrating the release of their new LP ‘Haircut’ at the Eagle Inn.

Tuesday 6th: The Texas Gentlemen (Deaf Institute)

// Texan roots-rock collective The Texas Gentlemen offer their devoted fans an intimate showing at The Deaf Institute. Okay, there’s also the small matter of Lady Gaga over at the Arena, too…

Wednesday 7th: Nightmares On Wax (Gorilla)

// Warp Records stalwart Nightmares On Wax invites fans to a special set at Gorilla, supporting new LP ‘Shape The Future’. Active since the early nineties, NoW helped define the early days of Warp with experimental bleep ‘n’ bass techno, still influencing artists today.

Thursday 8th: Sea Girls (Deaf Institute)

// Classically British guitar pop quartet Sea Girls (like seagulls, right?) play a headline date at Deaf on the back of plenty of attention from BBC Introducing for recent singles ‘Call Me Out’ and ‘Lost’.

Friday 9th: The Front Bottoms (The Albert Hall), Charlotte de Witte (Gorilla)

// Gorilla will be brimming with beats and bass with a hotly anticipated visit from Belgian DJ Charlotte de Witte, playing special extended set until 4am. Over at the Albert Hall, US indie outfit The Front Bottoms are still out and about supporting last year’s fine LP ‘Going Grey’.

Saturday 10th: Kendrick Lamar (The Arena), GoGo Penguin (Gorilla), Antics (Night & Day Café)

// Probably the biggest name in rap right now, Kendrick Lamar will be packing out the Arena this weekend, his first visit to Manchester since 2013. This one will be special, even before you’ve considered the added support of James Blake. href=”http://gogopenguin.co.uk”>GoGo Penguin bring another instalment of “hard-hitting jazz meets electronica” to Gorilla. Head over to Night & Day late on for the usual Antics indie disco, spearheaded with live music from Her’s, Pearl City and Grimm Twins.

Sunday 11th: Hollie Cook (Gorilla)

// We end the week back at Gorilla, where ex-Slits singer Hollie Cook visits supporting the release of latest LP ‘Vessel Of Love’, bringing charm and good vibes to Sunday evening. Listen to latest single ‘Angel Fire’ below!

See you next week!
