Fugazi spin-off project The Messthetics have unveiled details of their self-titled debut album, along with tour dates in the UK this Spring. With Fugazi still in a period of hiatus stretching back to 2002, the group was formed by Fugazi members Brendan Canty and Joe Lally along with experimental jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog, one half of duo Janel and Anthony. Supporting the new record, their nine-date UK tour will stop off at Night People on 5th February, and tickets are just a tenner.

The instrumental power-trio’s debut record includes nine songs recorded at Brendan Canty’s practice space throughout 2017, live and mostly without overdubs. Described as a “snapshot of a band dedicated to the live ideal, where structure begets improvisation”, praised by Pitchfork for valuing “economy and emotional resonance over technical wizardry and structural complexity”.

The Messthetics perform at Night People on Tuesday 5th February 2019. Tickets are available here.
