As it’s one of the quieter months of the year, we’ve been digging deep to spread the word of some greats shows on offer over the next few weeks. We’ve picked out five shows from singer-songwriters this month to keep the winter blues at bay.
Sunday 20th // Jack Broadbent @ The Night & Day Cafe:
Lincolnshire musician Jack Broadbent has had no trouble finding acclaim with his live shows, dubbed “the new master of the slide guitar” by the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival and “the real thang” by the legendary Bootsy Collins. Combining his talent as virtuosic acoustic and slide guitarist with poignant folk and blues inspired vocals, Broadbent is still fresh from a series of successful shows opening for the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Hallyday, Robben Ford and Tony Joe White. Tickets are £15, available here.
Thursday 24th // Israel Nash @ Deaf Institute:
// American singer, songwriter and guitarist Israel Nash recently saw off the release of fifth studio album ‘Lifted’, a collection of finely crafted, spiritual folk-rock. Supporting the record with an extensive tour, expect a night of soaring rock’n’roll psychedelia from the genre-bending Texan. Tickets are £16, available here.
Thursday 24th // Old Sea Brigade @ The Castle Hotel:
// Old Sea Brigade is the musical vehicle of Atlanta-born and Nashville-based singer-songwriter Ben Cramer, finding fans with a unique mix of Americana, indie, country, rock, and ambient soundscapes. He’s just seen off the release of debut full-length album, ‘Ode To A Friend’, supported with a 7-date tour of the UK. Tickets are £8, available here.
Monday 28th // John Paul White – The Night & Day Cafe:
// You may be familiar with singer-songwriter John Paul White from his work as one-half of the critically acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning outfit The Civil Wars. White’s latest album, and his first solo recording in nearly a decade, is ‘Beulah’, a diverse collection of folk balladry, swampy southern rock, lonesome campfire songs and dark acoustic pop. Tickets are £14, available here.
Wednesday 30th // Nicki Bluhm – The Night & Day Cafe:
// California songstress Nicki Bluhm visits Night & Day following some recent high-profile collaborations with the likes of Phil Lesh, Infamous String Dusters and Ryan Adams. After nearly a decade spent with the Gramblers, Bluhm has recently seen off the release of third solo album ‘To Rise You Gotta Fall’, written over a two-year period in Bluhm’s life, chronicling some “fundamental life changes”. Tickets are £12, available here.
