Not content with just the one Samarbeta residency experience, the Scouse innovators Ex Easter Island Head are reporting back to Islington Mill’s fertile creative ground in February. It follows last year’s packed shows with the BBC Philharmonic Ensemble as part of Sounds From The Other City festival, a taster of the growing list of successful collaborations seamlessly fused by the paws of Samarbeta.
Ex Easter Island Head are the perfect nucleus for the Salford-based project’s latest experiments in the chemistry of crafting sounds as a unit. From 8-21 February, the ringleading trio will set about atomising a collection of handpicked local guitarists, under the guise of Large Electric Ensemble, to enhance their idiosyncratic playing style. For the uninitiated, that style is guitars lain on tables, soft mallet drumsticks in hand and fine-tuned ears primed to manipulate the emanating soundscaping tones.
If that’s whet your appetite, then book now for their full ensemble performance, which takes place on Saturday 20 February at Islington Mill.
