We’re still enjoying the summer sunshine and the autumn gigging calendar is already taking shape, with this month’s BagThing bag bursting at the seams with great quality events.
In the nearer future, there are Hey! Manchester shows for Kevin Morby (22 August), Juliana Barwick (23 August), Miracle Legion (18 August) and Kiran Leonard (25 August), with a fuller programme to follow from September onwards. The first two are co-promoted shows with Now Wave, who lead the way for booking cutting edge indie bands once again. Check out Show Me The Body (12 August) and The Garden (27 August) among their other August gigs, with Tim Burgess + Peter Gordon (1-2 September), Eagulls (23 September) and their Strange Waves special (9 September) to look forward to.
Night & Day Cafe’s summer listings delves into their ongoing gigging, with a rare Politburo gig, an EP launch for Mad Winter, and this month’s Antics club night with Sulk (live) and Spring King (DJ set) all standing out.
Speaking of clubs, Qwerk continues every second Friday of the month (next up is 12 August) with the chunkiest, bounciest house music given their own unique twists, and Ultimate Power promises a gold medal-winning performance on 19 August at The Ritz for their monthly love affair with Whitney Houston, Bonnie Tyler, Meat Loaf, Bon Jovi and any other ballads leading the way.
Keep your eyes peeled as well for The Winachi Tribe’s new single via A1(M) Records. Out on 19 August, #TimeForLove has been labelled “House/Funk/Remix With a 21st Century Mancunia Twist”.
SJM Concerts’ presence at V Festival is coming up soon (20-21 August), with their inaugural Neighbourhood festival (8 October) a little further ahead and all manner of heavy hitters due from October onwards, from Kula Shaker to Pete Tong.
Turning over a calendar page, DHP’s picks recommence in September with Dr Dog (2 September), Thousand Yard Stare (29 September) and Sundara Karma (22 September) all tipped for checking out.
The longer-term planners among you will want to make sure you get your tickets early for Making a Murderer (22 October), Polica (21 October), Julia Holter (15 November) and Alvarez Kings (6 October) – all with more details when you pick up a BagThing bag.
