Recently formed indie rock brethren Brothers Water are set to celebrate the release of their second EP, Yellow Marigolds, with a headlining gig at Manchester’s Gullivers.
The Leeds band have always held the DIY work ethic close to heart, and writing and releasing their own material lends an added intimate warmth and signature quality to their tunes. It’s a fact that shines through in their yearning lyricism, driving guitars and infectious melodies, all creatively arranged in the likes of ‘Do What You Like‘ and ‘Mascara‘ from their debut EP, Your Name In Paint.
This knack for a catchy riff has been swelling a fanbase keen to hear more after popular live slots, such as at Sofar Sounds, but autonomy as a band has been key to their rise to recognition in their native Yorkshire and beyond, as they explain here: “We decided that we wanted more control over the gigs we were playing – so we took it and started putting them on ourselves. We feel liberated being able to put more craft and thought into our shows and we hope the 23rd [of September at Gullivers] will be a really special and unique night.”
The gig sees a stellar supporting cast, with three acts warming the venue’s rip-roaring soundsystem before Brothers Water set it ablaze. Their fellow Yorkshiremen and fuzzed up bluesmen Hello Operator are sandwiched between a pair of international musical collaborations – Rita Faria’s Manc-Lisbon combo Louie Louie offer the main support, while UK-US duo McCreary & Lane‘s dulcet acoustic duets are first up on the bill.
We have a pair of tickets to give away for one lucky winner to attend the gig on Friday 23 September.
