This week, Jenny Hval returns to Soup Kitchen with her latest album Blood Bitch, released via Sacred Bones.
Hval is known for an experimental live show that incorporates performance art, dance and a boundless falsetto that carries the songs over challenging topics. The primary themes of Blood Bitch – musically more abrasive than its predecessor Apocalypse, girl (2015), with noise tracks and heavy synth – are menstrual blood and vampires.
Indeed, the Norwegian avant-gardener is never a humourless affair, and there might be a wry joke among the genitalia vocab. See Innocence is Kinky (2013) for deets.
Meanwhile, expect a deeply rewarding experience.
Jenny Hval plays at Soup Kitchen on Tuesday 18 October, 2016. Tickets are available here.
