This month, Los Angeles innovative songbird Julia Holter is set to return to Manchester, playing at the Grade I-listed Cathderal on Tuesday 15 November.
Even before her 2015 Piccadilly Records table-topping album of assuredly eccentric whimsy, Have You In my Wilderness, Holter had been setting hearts and minds aflutter with avant-garde artistry. Critics were clamouring to heap praise on this breakthrough album – Pitchfork awarding a rare 8.4 and The Guardian describing her sound as “exceptional pop“.
Her star has risen since signing with Domino Recordings for her third album, 2013’s Loud City Song, and her latest visit shows the sky’s the limit.
More recently, French ambient kingpin Jean Michel Jarre has described her as “a muse for electronica” in light of their collaboration this year.
Each time she’s visited Manchester, her audience has grown with her, leap-frogging from Deaf Institute to a sold out Gorilla show. This month’s Manchester Cathedral performance offers her a grander, more ornate backdrop to deliver her selections from a burgeoning repertoire.
Julia Holter is set to perform at Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday 15 November, 2016.
