American composer and synthesist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith received huge accolades last year for her album EARS. Her fifth studio album, the sumptuous record was featured on widespread ‘album of the year’ rundowns (including ours) and released just months before a new collaboration with electronic pioneer Suzanne Ciani for Sunergy (RVNG INTL.). Fans will be excited to hear she’s just announced her debut show in Manchester at Soup Kitchen, on 11th June.
EARS is a record full of warm, heartfelt textures and lush soundscapes, but maintaining something of a pop structure. Based around a legendary analogue Buchla 100 synthesiser, it’s a sound that evokes a strong sense of nostalgia, and you may think to past masters such as Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre. Make no mistake, this superbly crafted music is firmly rooted in the present, looking forward. She’ll be playing in Manchester following two dates in the UK, including London’s Field Day.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith plays at the Soup Kitchen on Sunday 11th June, 2017. Tickets are now available here.
