Endangered species from land and sea have gathered together to inhabit the metropolis of MediaCityUK for Unnatural Borders. By day, you’ll the sculptures towering over the public on four large plinths, but onlookers have to wait until dusk to see their incredible transformation. From 9pm, they are illuminated with stunning visual projections to bring a magical show of light and illusion to the 3D animals. The event is a Quays Culture commission by Sober Industries for the Quay’s annual free summer showcase of spectacular art. Watch some of their incredible work below.
The spectacular sculptures “question our responsibility to these beautiful creatures, and our own mis/understanding of natural and man-made borders and boundaries in these changing modern days”. Running until Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, the polar bear, whale, red squirrel and bee will be illuminated daily from 9pm-11pm.
The free exhibition “explores the interaction and impact between human civilization and the animal kingdom environment”, whilst demonstrating the cutting edge explorations in digital art. Don’t miss the chance to catch these four gigantic sculptures, as they claim MediaCityUK’s waterside as their home.
Unnatural Borders takes place at MediaCityUK from 20th-29th May 2017. More information is available here.
