This month The Peer Hat hosts an exciting new night showcasing female and LGBT musicians, aiming to change the narrative of many live music line-ups, all in support of local charities. The new night, VALID, invites a selection of female and LGBT bands, along with solo artists to display their talents in a safe environment and raise money for charities working with female and LGBT communities.
Created by student Chloe Robinson, VALID is a reaction to first-hand experience of sexism in the industry, from promoters not wanting to put her on the line up, to security allowing her male band members backstage, whilst assuming she was a groupie, along with other bands being hostile to her backstage. GEM Events promotes a friendly welcoming atmosphere and this event is no different, inviting all through the doors. GEM Events‘ mission is to “highlight gender discrimination in the industry whilst simultaneously showcasing the breadth of talent already working in the industry” whilst fundraising for local charities and organisations. Tickets are available now for just £5.
VALID takes place at The Peer Hat on Saturday 21st April. Tickets are available here.
